Love and fear cannot exist in the same space at the same time. All action is based in love or fear. When actions are based in love, they add to abundance and love. When actions are based in fear, they only increase insecurity, feelings of lack and fear. The US has made fear its culture and many believe it is natural to function through fear and insecurity. Most don't know love because their expressions of love are actually rooted in fear. There are a few basic fears most people have.
Fear of Lack
Fear of lack is the basis of personal insecurities. These include fear of not being enough, smart enough, pretty enough, rich enough and so on. Fear of lack is also the basis of not possessing enough because a major theme in US culture is materialism. The economy runs off people trying to possess more and the latest. The newest phone, more clothes, more (bigger) house, latest technology and whatever else the media tells people they need. How many people really need to update their phones as often as they come out with upgrades? However people always want to have the latest version. People also do not want to lack admiration and affection from others, so they attempt to act in ways that "ensure" people will love them. And seeing as most people are materialistic and shallow the best way to get love is by acquiring physical possessions that get attention. Also acting in ways to get attention is popular with the rise of social media clout and stardom.
Fear of Abandonment
Fear of abandonment has been cultivated in US culture because most are abandoned by their mothers at 6 weeks old. Babies are left with strangers for 8 hours a day and this becomes a norm for children and as adults this is an underlying fear. Many people cling to relationships for dear life because life has taught them that people will leave them and they will have to fend for themselves. Isolation and loneliness are two fears that often have a base in fear of abandonment. No one wants to feel isolated or lonely so they attempt to manipulate people into staying with them. They do things for them, try to be who they want them to be because of their fear of abandonment.
Fear of the Unknown
Fear of the unknown is one of the most paralyzing fears because it limits growth. If people fear the unknown then they will not grow in areas of life they do not have knowledge. Many times fear of death stems from a fear of the unknown and while religion may convince many they know what is to come after death, the truth is many still fear death. The theory of an afterlife is not enough to erase the fear of the unknown of what actually happens when the body expires. When people have not been exposed to certain cultures, they may fear them as we see with black and white people in the US. This fear leads to racism and stems from a lack of knowledge of culture (and also the criminalization of black people in media but that is another story.) Also people holding on to US culture and government see that it is corrupt and is producing bad results and yet they fear letting it go because they fear the unknown. It is hard to release all you have ever known and trusting yourself and others to develop something more beneficial. Fear of the unknown leads most to avoid subjects they do not have knowledge of and cling to ways of the past to their detriment. This is a deep rooted and strong fear in many. How can you claim to love your children if you are afraid to journey into the unknown to create a better way of life when it is obvious that this current reality is failing them?
Love as the Foundation
When love is the foundation there is no room for fear. Everything is done out of love and there is nothing to fear. Exercising caution is vital but that is not fear. Journeying into the unknown will grown understanding and allow people to create a better reality with the knowledge they gained. Once people have released their fear of lack and embraced abundance then they will know they have everything they need to be great. There is no reason for insecurity and the fear of being abandoned can be released also. With full confidence in self, even if someone decides to leave it does not take away anything. The person is still whole and happy and ready to venture into the unknown ahead of them. Their love of life will cancel out any fear because love and fear cannot exist in the same place at the same time.
Love Over Fear
If we are going to create a new reality then we have to function out of love. We have seen what a society based in fear becomes. Violence, racism, insecurity, hate, materialism, apathy, mental illness and addiction are commonplace. What can a society based in love create? Imagine a society in which everyone wants the best for everyone in it and truly loves thy neighbor. Cooperation becomes the norm not competition because no one is function from lack and insecurity. No one is left to fend for themselves with the threat of homelessness and hunger. When people live under the threat of homelessness and hunger, crime is inevitable. If we truly value life then anyone going hunger and being homeless is unacceptable. We have been taught that resources are scarce and there will always be the haves and the have-nots but we do not have to accept this as our foundation. We can make love our foundation, which would lead us to create communities in which all members work together to meet all members' needs. This reduces the need for crime and the threat of violence for everyone. This undermines the prison-industrial complex and stops making crime profitable. The richest people in the world function through insecurity and fear and that is why they continue to oppress and acquire more and more which leaves less and less for others. Let's build out of love. Let every action we take be based in love so we can change our world.
